Building satisfying and appropriate connections in the ID/D and autism population can be especially challenging. We all need companionship, in whatever form that may take, but we also need to be sure that any relationships are healthy and safe for all parties involved.

This training is designed to assist with:

  • Developing communication skills related to various aspects of healthy relationship building
  • Providing a confidential, judgment-free environment so all parents/guardians can feel comfortable discussing a variety of person-centered scenarios and topics (e.g., privacy, boundaries, hygiene, mutual relationships, safety, and more)
  • Gaining knowledge and tips by sharing information with others
  • Examining potential barriers to foster an open and safe learning environment at home
  • Comparing messages received by neurodivergent and neurotypical children and young adults regarding more sensitive topics (i.e. intimate relationships, dating apps, and navigating the internet/social media)

Christopher Chagnon, presenter, is Minute Man Arc’s Assistant Director of Community Based Day Services (CBDS) and Human Sexuality Educator. Christopher has worked at Minute Man Arc for the past 12years where he has assumed many roles, including 5 years as the Human Rights Coordinator. He has recently received his master’s degree in applied behavior analysis (ABA) from UMass Lowell and is excited to assist an ever-growing I/DD population in need of behavioral support. His passion for advocating for the rights of all individuals is apparent, seeking out opportunities to provide helpful tools and resources either directly or to their loved ones and staff.

Please join us for this evening of valuable information and discussion.

Also, please note: This presentation will NOT be recorded due to the potential sensitive nature of conversation. We want all participants to feel comfortable asking questions and sharing information.
